George Chave is an American composer whose music is performed by musicians throughout the United States and internationally. His work ranges from solo instrumental pieces to large ensemble works, with a particular affinity for writing for brass.
His composition Le Nez De L'Esprit received Second Prize in the 2015 Texas Tech Trombone Composition Competition, and his Whitewater for bass trombone and piano was commissioned by Dennis Bubert, former bass trombonist of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.
Chave has written or arranged more than 100 works, including music for wind ensemble, orchestra, chorus, chamber ensembles, and solo performers. His music has been commissioned by organizations such as the St. Louis Symphony, the Texas Music Teachers Association, St. Francis University, and numerous professional soloists.
His brass arrangements and compositions are written with a deep respect for the instrument and the performers who play them. As a brass player himself, Chave brings a performer’s perspective to his writing, emphasizing clarity, playability, and musical character.
